ARCHIVE: Rt. Rev. Ryan Lozano consecrated Bishop

SAN ANTONIO 17 November 2012 (ACNS) - The Rt. Rev. Msgr. Ryan Lozano was consecrated bishop today at Christ Church in San Antonio. He has been appointed Auxiliary Bishop and Vicar-General of the Archdiocese of the Southwest and will lead and build that See. The parish that hosted the event provided a tranquil setting for the celebration of such a joyful event. The Chief Consecrator was His Eminence Rutherford Cardinal Johnson, Patriarch of Saint Stephen, and the Co-Consecrators were Their Graces Archbishop Harris Rowzie, OP, Archbishop of the Southeast, and Mar Michael Abportus, Bishop of LaPorte. Msgr. Lozano's parents and family were present to share in the occasion.

The ancient rites of consecration, according to the usage of the Anglican Rite Roman Catholic Church, were set as usual in the midst of a pontifical sung mass with the majestic sounds of the magnificent pipe organ. After taking the Episcopal Oath, the Bishop-Elect prostrated himself before the altar to beg God's help in carrying out the great burden that was soon to be laid upon his shoulders.

The Co-Consecrators joined in the laying on of hands, and the new Bishop's head and palms were anointed with Holy Chrism. Bishop Lozano then concelebrated the mass. Later, after receiving his bishop's mitre, the Te Deum, the hymn of praise, was sung while he was led around the church to bless all the people.

At the conclusion of the mass, Bishop Lozano gave his first solemn pontifical blessing as a bishop. Then, according to the usage of the See of Saint Stephen, the new bishop presented his Chief Consecrator with symbolic gifts of torches, bread, and wine. After the final procession, all present congratulated Bishop Lozano and retired to a reception prepared by the parish.
